ENC2135
Reflection
ENC2135 has changed many of my thoughts pertaining to English classes. At first, I didn’t know how deep the word “Genre” really was. Of course I knew that there were genres in music and books. But, I learned that a genre can go as just being a simple “Thank you” card and even a blog post could be a genre itself. Without this class, I definitely would never have realized how important genres are and how they contribute to our lives daily. It has challenge my thought process and has made me dig deep while doing researching. It has challenged me as a writer, researcher and student.
For Project 1 the conference at the Sweet Shop pertaining to my Draft #2 truly opened up my eyes as to what genre really means. It has given me a much clearer view as to what I need to do in order to improve my next draft. I received great advice, such as to change a few things around, and tips on how I can wrap up my essay and tie in things I didn’t mention. If I didn’t go to this conference, I may have not caught the mistakes I made that were easily fixed. I see major positive differences in my paper already by simply taking the advice I was given during this conference. My paper is flowing smoothly and the genre can be easily identified.
Project 2 has made me a more developed reader, writer, and researcher. At first this project seemed to be a little difficult to me. After I chad my conference and really got the gist of what I had to do, it took a lot of weight off of my shoulders and seemed much more simple to me.
As a reader, I had to go through many different articles to find on that was a good match for my paper. I read about 20 different articles then carefully selected the 10 I thought would be the best fit.
As a writer, I wanted to make sure my paper was the best it could be. I proof read it time after time carefully checking for any spelling or grammar mistakes. I enjoyed Mr. Wenzel going over grammar notes with us, it gave me a good insight of what I could have been doing wrong so after we got those notes, I went over my paper to proof read a time or two more.
As a researcher, I gained a lot of skills. In High School, my teachers never really made us do too many research projects. So at first I thought that this assignment was going to be really hard and complicated for me to do. After visiting the Dirac Library and learning how to research and researching techniques, I learned that it isn’t as scary as I imagined.
This project all in all has given me skills that I will need throughout my duration of college and even my future career. I am glad that I was given a project which allows me to research something that is important to me.
Project 3 allowed me to show my creativity while creating a “Thank you” card, a piktochart, and also a blog post. Being able to choose which genre’s I wanted to pursue gave me the opportunity to show off the usefulness of what I learned during ENC2135. This was my favorite project through this class as I felt that I was able to show my creativity and not just stick to writing an essay/research paper.
